Food for Thought... the colours.

For me, Penang is a food paradise, among others. I love Penang food, its essences and aroma, thus the birth of Essence I. The background with curves represents the pipping steaming hot delicious dishes available in Penang. It is also represents the various mouth-watering gravies.

The Silver and Gold, represent the rich history Penang is blessed with, including the dishes available that are from various cultures and ethnicity. The spices pasted on the piece is an authenticity of Penang herself. The history of spice is almost as old as human civilization.

It is a history of lands discovered, empires built and brought down, wars won and lost, treaties signed and flouted, flavours sought and offered, and the rise and fall of different religious practices and beliefs. Spices were among the most valuable items of trade in ancient and medieval time and Penang herself has the most interesting story to tell. There is no single sense that defines flavour - although we perceive the flavour of food in our mouths, it is our brains that determine flavour.

My brains (or mind) translates the colour red as a stimulant. Red is the hottest of the warm colours. So in Essence I, I used Red, Orange and Yellow. Yellow is a colour that gets attention and is overpowering. While Orange is vibrant and is also known as an appetite stimulant. The combination of red and yellow and orange used in Essence I, denotes energy, warmth, and the sun- exactly how all the delicious food and its aroma in Penang stimulates me.

While in Essence II, I used Green, Brown and Yellow.

All the colours used is my way of describing Penang Island that is also known as the Pearl of the Orient and heaven for food lovers, who come from all over the world. Penang's cuisine reflects the Chinese, Malay and Indian ethnic mix of Malaysia!

Sparkling grey,
They're my own veins.
Any more than a whisper,
Any sudden movement of my heart.
And I know, I know I'll have to watch them pass away
Just get through this day

Give up your way, you could be anything,
Give up my way, and lose myself, not today
That's too much guilt to pay

Sickened in the sun
You dare tell me you love me
But you held me down and screamed you wanted me to die
Honey you know, you know I'd never hurt you that way
You're just so pretty in your pain

Give up my way, and I could be anything
I'll make my own way
Without your senseless hate... hate... hate... hate.

So run, run, run
And hate me, if it feels good.
I can't hear your screams anymore

You lied to me
But I'm older now
And I'm not buying baby
Demanding my response
Don't bother breaking the door down
I found my way out

And you'll never hurt me again.

mix media & acrylic on canvas
36" x 48"

artwork submitted for Maybank 50 years Art Exhibition
theme Expressions of the Malayan Tiger 2010
to exhibit at Balai Seni, Menara Maybank, Kuala Lumpur.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Currently 10 years into the millennium, the world is now at a super fast pace, everything is evolving per millisecond including Maybank and its services.

With its online services everything can be done within a click thus the two triangle on my piece symbolizes 'the-fast-forward' button.

While we are chasing to be at the top, yet we must remember the past that brought us to the future.

Trough the black and gold the background, I attempted captured the qualities of the majestic Malayan tiger as per the theme reflections of Strength, Vigour and Elegance.

The Red in the piece means Stop or rather - We should stop all the killings! There are fewer than 5,000 wild tigers in the world and only about 500 are left in Malaysia, a sharp decline from an estimated 3,000 in the 1950s.

The Green is a sign for Go! Or Lets start going green to save the forest. We should now recycle, reuse and reduce!

The dripping black wax with gold base represents the tears due to pollution that sooner or later will destroy our ancient treasures, the air, water and earth, if we do not act now!

This technique, the texture and the colour combination somehow really caught everyone's attention. I've sold the first piece in this series in 2009 and this year, I sold another piece during a Exclusive High Tea event in The Royal Bintang Plaza. Honestly, I loves doing this artwork too. It's simple but not as simple as everyone thought.

I can finish this piece real fast if I'm in a very relax mood. Not in the hurry as it will take lots of time to wait for the wax to melt and drip... Sometimes, when I have too much on my mind - this is a very good relaxing session for me. While waiting for the wax to drip, I can really put my thought on the matters that I have to handle. And oh yes! it's a good sauna session too! Hahhahahah. As you can't on any fan or air-condition to do this. Somehow, it's hard. So yes, lets burn some fat by dripping the wax on those canvases! *wink*

Oh ya, it's the new size of canvas You like it? I do!!! This piece is about me imagining looking in the mirror and this is the reflection I saw... The good, the bad, the thick and thin through life!

My new client told me that she find my art very dark but her husband, who I know for many years now said he loves my artwork cuz he can relate to it. Yeah, unlike now - he's not happy before. Now, he's the luckiest and the most happy man on earth! Her exact word was 'Melancholic'. And most people I know said my art very dark! Hmmm, I don't deny that cuz that is the excellent time to paint. As painting is my outlet to express my feelings. But lately, I don't paint much as I'm in a very calm and happy situation. Plus busy running around meeting datelines and delivering all my ID job and art competition. Alhamdulillah. I'm a happy girl now...

I bought few round canvases that I saw in the art shop the other day. No idea what to paint or how to paint yet but I know, I'm going to produce some artwork for below RM300 series for few coming occasion. I even bought myself lots of art paint marker to play with. While toying with some ideas, sketching and scribbling... I got an idea!

This piece was inspired by the big giant round LollyPop Candy that I saw in my fridge. A birthday present from Evy & Fairy for last 2 years! *Ahakz* Yes, I still don't have heart to eat them yet. Plus it's a nice deco for my internal fridge shelves! So, maybe it's going to be out from my fridge soon and before I do that - let's try my new Paint Markers on my new shape round canvases!

I'm high on happiness,
From full dosage of love,
May this feelings,
Remains forever.

My Candy Eyes,
Thank you for everything...

Again, thank you for being here & there for me. You never failed to make me smile and laugh! Notice that pink colour, I know you loves pink a lot! Dikeheningan malam ini
Aku dihimpit kenangan
Sejarah cinta mengajarku
Sepanjang hari sepanjang malam

Dibenak ku kau sentiasa
Lalu memukau jiwa
Jadi sentimental lelaki ini

Terkadang perjalanan jauh
Yang kan mampu aku menapak
Pendakian gunung yang tinggi
Lembah curam yang ngeri
Aku harungi

Sepuluh musim yang benderang
Bagai direndam perasaan
Mentari terik tak terasa
Awan mendung berlalu berganti masa

Itupun dia kehadiran
Yang tak mungkin aku lepaskan
Dakap erat sepenuh kasih
Genggam genggaman ini menambah seri

Biarlah dunia beredar
Rentak sama kita berlari
Menuju titik permulaan
Belum tahu dimana ia berakhir
